Remove Image Backgrounds

Google Slides offers a built-in remove background feature that uses Gemini to automatically separate the foreground subject from its background, saving you time and effort.

How can it help me?

  • Focus on the subject: Removing distracting backgrounds can help you highlight the main subject of your image, making your slides cleaner and more visually appealing.

  • Enhance creativity and design: By isolating subjects from their original backgrounds, you gain more flexibility in your design process. You can place the subject on different backgrounds, combine it with other elements, or use it to create unique visual effects.

  • Improve slide professionalism: A clean image without a busy background often looks more professional and polished, enhancing the overall impact of your presentation.

How do I use it?

  1. Open your Google Slides presentation and select the slide containing the image you want to edit.

  2. Click on the image to select it.

  3. Choose one of the following methods to access the background removal feature:

    • Click the "Edit image" icon (it looks like a pencil) and select Remove background.

    • Go to the top menu, click Format > Image > Edit image, and then choose Remove background.

Tips & Tricks

  • Image selection is key: The feature works by analysing the image and automatically detecting the background. Choosing images with clearly defined subjects and distinct backgrounds will likely yield better results.

  • Undo for easy reversal: If you're not satisfied with the background removal, simply click Undo to revert to the original image.

  • Version history for original access: If you've made other edits to the image after removing the background and want to go back to the original photo, you can use the "Version history" feature in Google Slides.
