Document summaries

Google Docs features a Gemini side panel that provides AI assistance directly within the document editor. This tool can automatically summarise the content of your file, helping you quickly grasp the main points of long documents without reading them in full.

This capability is included for organisations using Google Workspace Business and Enterprise editions. It is also available to users with Gemini add-ons, such as Gemini Business or Gemini Enterprise, and those with a Google One AI Premium subscription.

To use the feature, open a document and click the Gemini icon to open the side panel. From there, you can select the option to summarise the document or type a prompt to ask for specific insights about the content.
